Although contract obligations that Simpson University has with database providers preclude us from making those resources available to anyone other than current students and faculty, we have compiled a list of general and regional resources that would be of benefit to alumni and church leaders.

Alliance Life

Alliance Life is the official magazine of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, focusing on Alliance missions activities around the world. This resource provides access to articles published in the periodical from October 2005 to the present.

Alliance Magazine / Alliance Life is the official magazine of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, focusing on Alliance missions activities around the world. The online archives allows users to search the run of the magazine from 1882 - 2003. You must register for a free My CMA account in order to use the archives. Alliance Life articles from October 2005 to the present are also available at

Annual Reports of the C&MA, 1888 - 1916, 1995 - 1998

These reports, yearbooks and surveys document details of the ministry of the Alliance at home and overseas.

The Asbury Journal

Contains essays and book reviews written from a Wesleyan perspective. It attempts to reflect the global reality of the Christian church, the holistic nature of Wesleyan thought, and the importance of both theory and practice in addressing the current issues of the day. The periodical was titled The Asbury Theological Journal prior to 2001.

The Association of Religion Data Archives

ARDA attempts to provide access to the best data on religion. The collection is international in focus and caters to educators, journalists, religious congregations, and researchers. Data included in the ARDA are submitted by the foremost religion scholars and research centers in the world. Currently housed in the Social Science Research Institute, the College of Liberal Arts, and the Department of Sociology at the Pennsylvania State University, the ARDA is funded by the Lilly Endowment, the John Templeton Foundation, Chapman University and the Pennsylvania State University. Publishes the classics of literature, nonfiction and reference free of charge.

C&MA National Archives

Provides links to sites that are important to C&MA history free of charge. The site requires registration to access some of the resources (MyCMA account).

Christian Classics Ethereal Library

Classic Christian books in electronic format.

Directory of Open Access Journals

Its purpose is to include all open access scientific and scholarly journals that use a quality control system to guarantee content. 

ERIC Database

The Education Resources Information Center (ERIC) is a digital library of education-related resources, providing the public with a centralized ERIC Web site for searching the ERIC bibliographic database of more than 1.1 million citations going back to 1966. The database includes some full-text.

EThOS : Electronic Theses Online Service

The United Kingdom's national thesis service whose aim is to provide open access to publications that have been publically funded. The service provides free full text to a large number of theses. A free EThOS account is required for access.

Google Scholar

Enables you to search specifically for scholarly literature, including peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, preprints, abstracts and technical reports from all broad areas of research. Use Google Scholar to find articles from a wide variety of academic publishers, professional societies, preprint repositories and universities, as well as scholarly articles available across the web. The resource provides a mechanism for searching case law across federal and state jurisdictions.

Internet Archive

The Internet Archive includes texts, audio, moving images, and software as well as archived web pages in its collections.

The Journal of Inductive Biblical Studies

Promotes the hermeneutical approach to the study of the Christian Scriptures.

JSTOR Register and Read

Provides access to three articles every two weeks from over a thousand journals in JSTOR's catalog.

Khan Academy

A collection of more than 3,500 educational videos on subjects including biology, business, chemistry, finance, healthcare, history, math, medicine, and physics.

The Leon Levy Dead Sea Scrolls Digital Library

A free online digitized virtual library of the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Open Access Theses and Dissertations

A resource for finding open access graduate theses and dissertations published around the world. As of February 2014, the resource indexes over 1.9 million documents.


OpenLibrary provides hundreds of thousands of electronic books free of charge and downloadable to your reading device. Register online for a free account and borrow up to five e-books for two weeks. Most of the collection is available only through participating libraries, in other words you need to have an account through your local participating library in order to borrow materials. (Simpson University is a participating library.) 

Project Gutenberg

A collection of tens of thousands of free eBooks representing multiple subjects.

PubMed Central

Full-text archive of biomedical and life sciences journal literature at the U.S. National Institutes of Health's National Library of Medicine (NIH/NLM). The database contains millions of articles.

RightNow Media

Self-described as the Netflix of Bible study videos, RightNow Media is a library of thousands of streaming videos including Bible studies, leadership videos, kids shows and more and is viewable on all devices. This resource is accessible by official invite only.

Teaching Channel

Provides videos on a wide range of subjects that demonstrate inspiring and effective teaching practices for grades K-12. Community members trade ideas and share inspiration with each other. Videos also include information on alignment with Common Core State Standards

Theological Journal Search

Searches websites to retrieve free, full text articles from open access journals and other periodicals related to religious and scripture studies, systematic and practical theology, and cognate disciplines.
